Flowers

The cut flower portion of our farm has added greater variety in recent years. We used to have just a few flowers around the yard, and now we have about an acre of flowers that we are harvesting at any given time. We grow a few perennials, but our main focus is annual cut flowers. Sunflowers and zinnias are some of the most popular, but we love to add new and interesting colors and textures to our mixed bouquets, with choices such as agrostemma, centaurea, ornamental millet and others.
Of course, our flower selections vary with the seasons. In the spring, there are snapdragons, larkspur, delphiniums, and dianthus, to name a few. The bouquets sold during this time of year are a perfect compliment to our strawberries and cool season vegetables.

In the warmer months, the flowers swing into full gear. We have a multitude of sunflowers; the most showy is the heirloom variety we call "Granddaddy Jones." It was grown by Karen's grandfather, Wesley Jones in Pinnacle, NC. Additionally, scorching days mean that every color of zinnia from red to green to purple comes into bloom. Celosia, yarrow, and ageratum are just a few of the fillers that we add to our bunches. The warm, vibrant colors of our summer flowers are sure to please.
