Vegetables
We began selling a few vegetables at the Farmers’ Market in Hillsborough in 1998. We then increased our vegetable production in 1999 and began selling at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. We have grown over the years, and we are now able to offer a wider variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
McAdams Farm grows all sorts of produce. Among these are tomatoes, corn, squash, cucumbers, green beans, southern field peas, okra, cantaloupes and a wide array of specialty melons, watermelons, eggplant, and peppers. We also raise potatoes, carrots, lettuce, onions, beets, broccoli, cabbage, and collards.
Every season we make several plantings of each different crop. This allows us to extend our harvesting season. Almost all of the vegetables are grown in raised beds with black plastic mulch and drip irrigation. This irrigation system conserves water by putting the moisture directly in the ground beside the plant, where it is needed the most.
We grow hundreds of varieties of vegetables, from Sungold, Early Girl and Celebrity tomatoes to Athena cantaloupes and Golden Beauty melons, and from baby Zephyr and pattypan squash to Cool Breeze cucumbers. Let us know if there is a variety or crop that you would like to see us grow.
Our selection varies day to day with the weather and the growing season, but the vegetables we produce and their approximate harvesting seasons are shown below. For the most up-to-date info, call (919)732-7701 for a listing of what we have available.
